Malta

November 5th - 9th - Nate had a week off so we decided to go on a little vacation to Malta. Malta is a very small island just south of Sicily, Italy. We had no idea what to expect.

On Tuesday November 6th we took a ferry to the island of Gozo for a tour of the island. Gozo is very beautiful, some of the highlights of the tour were - Xlendi Bay (a fishing village surrounded by sheer cliffs) where we had lunch, Ta'Pinu Church (a 16th century chapel integrated with a new Romanesque style basilica), and The Azzure Window (where time and sea have worked together to produce some of the most remarkable scenery on the islands).

On Wednesday November 7th we took a tour of Malta. We didn't have a very good tour guide so over all the tour was not very good but we did see some interesting places. A few of the places that we liked were: Mosta Dome (the church where a bomb during WWII came through the dome and did not blow. The 300 people in the church were not harmed), Mdina (a medieval walled city built by the Phoenicians), and The Blue Grotto (Mystic sea cave with a deep bottom reflecting the brilliant colors of marine fauna).

On Thursday November 8th we took it easy. In the morning we walked to Sweethaven Village "Popeye Village" - the actual set of the film Popeye was shot on location in 1980. Then the rest of the day we sat on the beach.

We had a great time and would recommend Malta if you are looking for somewhere different to go!
